The National Catholic Quality Unit Award - Pope Paul VI is a unit award option for BSA packs, troops, crews or ships that are chartered by a Catholic institution (parish, Knights of Columbus, etc.)
Requirement areas cover adult training and leadership, service by the unit, religious emblems, religious activities, vocation awareness, relationships and membership.
Adult Training & Leadership:
- Leaders participate in BSA training, including BSA Child Protection and Diocesan Protecting God's Children.
- Two-deep leaders at functions
- One or more leaders participated in a training program offered by local, diocesan, regional or National Catholic Committee on Scouting
Service
- Conduct a service project for the parish, diocese or chartering organization within the past 12 months
Religious Emblems
- Annual presentation on the Religious Emblems programs
- 25% participation in an emblem program
Religious Activities
- Participate in at least one religious activity such as a retreat, day of recollection, religious conclave, pilgrimage or similar activity in the past 12 months.
Vocation Awareness
- Unit participated in an activity focused on church-related vocations (visit a seminary, vocation day, training chaplain aides) within the past 12 months.
Relationships
- Meet at least annually with Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting
- Meet at least annually with the executive officer of the chartering organization
- Actively working on BSA Quality Unit Award
Membership
- Net growth in membership
- Plan for recruiting members is in place
- Unit annually reviews meaning of its respective oath or promise
