Purpose
The Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting (DCCS) is a group of Catholic lay people and clergy who give guidance, vitality and leadership to the spiritual programs that are available for both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois.
Goals
• to invite all Catholic Scouts to fulfill the duty to God portion of the Scout Oath through participation in Church activities • to develop, implement and sustain Catholic activities for all Scouts and Scout leaders in the diocese • to provide training and support for adult leaders on the religious programs for Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts USA and Campfire USA • to meet regularly to be able to effectively carry out diocesan and national programs and activities • to promote participation in regional and national events for representation, training and information • to assist parishes and other church-related societies in the diocese with the establishment of units within these organizations • to advise local council offices that operate in the diocese on all matters relevant to Catholic Scouting • To perform other duties as assigned by the Bishop or his designee

Annual Scout Mass
The annual Scout Mass is being postponed and will possibly be held in conjunction with the Camp-o-Ree being planned for August 3 - 5 at Camp Illinek on Lake Springfield.

GSUSA Response to recent EWTN Series
EWTN Global Catholic Television Network recently aired a series on the Women of Grace program about Girl Scouts USA. The following press release was issued by GSUSA on February 20, 2012 to correct a number of errors in the EWTN broadcast.

The EWTN series and subsequence response by Girl Scouts USA are part of a larger issue that is being monitored closely by myself and staff in the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry, the organization that oversees the National Catholic Committee on Girl Scouts and Campfire USA. Below is the federation's response to a number of concerns people have expressed about Girl Scouts USA and their relationship with the Catholic Church.

Award Deadlines
The following deadlines are announced as a guide for planning your participation in the various awards presentations for Scouts.
Younger Scouts - no deadline

These Emblems and Recognitions can be earned at any time during the year. All completed applications should be sent to the Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting at the Catholic Pastoral Center in Springfield along with the Awards Order Form . The mailing address is on the order form. Awards can be presented in the local parish at any time, although some units may chose Scout Sunday at their discretion. Please allow 2 - 3 weeks for delivery in case there is a backorder on any of the items needed.

These Emblem and Recognition applications are due on April 1st for presentation at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield at the annual Scout Mass and Awards Presentation Ceremony. Boards of Review should be completed prior to April 1. Completed applications should be sent to the Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting at the Catholic Pastoral Center along with the Awards Order Form. The mailing address is on the order form.
NOTE: This deadline is only if Scouts wish to participate in the annual Diocesan Mass.
BSA Unit Awards - various
- National Catholic Quality Unit Award (Pope Paul VI)- April 1
- Gold Medallion- January 5
